Expert Advice

Tips to Get the Most from Your Private Day Tour

Our guides share their insider advice for making every private day tour an extraordinary one.

🌅

Book the Earliest Start Time

Sunrise visits to the Taj Mahal, Amber Fort, or Varanasi ghats are genuinely life-changing. Thin crowds, golden light, and a calm you won't get at 11am.

💧

Stay Hydrated, Dress Light

Carry water, wear light breathable fabrics, and bring a sun hat for outdoor monuments. October–March tours are far more comfortable than summer ones.

📸

Tell Your Guide You Love Photography

Our guides know the best angles, the secret archways, and the precise moment when light falls perfectly. Tell them at the start — they'll design your day around it.

🍽️

Ask Your Guide for Lunch Recommendations

Guides know the cleanest, most authentic local restaurants — not tourist traps. A biryani in a backstreet Agra dhaba will outlast any five-star meal in your memory.

🔋

Charge Your Devices the Night Before

Your phone, camera, and power bank — all fully charged. India's greatest sights deserve your best shots, and monuments rarely have charging points inside.

🥿

Wear Comfortable, Slip-Off Shoes

Many temples and mosques require shoes to be removed at the entrance. Slip-on shoes save time and frustration. We provide disposable socks at key sites.

Got Questions?

Private Day Tours — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your private day tour in India.
What is included in a private day tour with India Bon Voyage?
All our private day tours include: a licensed expert local guide for the entire day, a private air-conditioned vehicle with professional driver, all monument entry tickets (including Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Amber Fort etc.), hotel pick-up and drop-off, and bottled water. Meals and additional activities (like boat rides or elephant safaris) are clearly listed per tour and can be added on request. There are no hidden charges.
Our private day tours are priced per group, not per person (apart from monument entry fees which are charged individually). This means a couple or family of four shares the same base vehicle and guide cost — making private tours excellent value for groups of 2 or more. The prices shown on our listings are the per-person equivalent for 2 people travelling together.
Absolutely — this is one of the biggest advantages of going private. You can request a different start time, add or remove sites, ask to spend more time at a specific location, include a local meal, or request detours to markets, workshops, or hidden spots your guide recommends. Just communicate your preferences when booking, or directly with your guide on the day itself.
The most popular private day tour from Delhi is the Taj Mahal Sunrise & Agra Day Tour — a 10–12 hour round trip covering the Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort, and optionally Fatehpur Sikri. The second most popular is the Old Delhi Heritage & Street Food Tour, which is a walking-based full-day experience through Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, Jama Masjid and the spice market. Both can be booked for any day of the week.
Private day tours accommodate between 1 and 15 people in a single group. For 1–4 guests we use a private sedan (Toyota Innova or equivalent). For 5–8 guests we use a larger SUV or minivan. For groups of 9–15 we arrange a private minibus or tempo traveller. Groups of 16+ can be split into two private vehicles with dedicated guides each. Contact us for large group enquiries.
The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for prayers. It is open all other days from sunrise to sunset. We automatically schedule all Agra day tours on non-Friday dates — you’ll never arrive to find it closed. Special moonlight viewings are available on and around the full moon, subject to availability. Sunrise entry is the most popular time for private tours due to the spectacular light and thinner crowds.
We offer free cancellation up to 48 hours before your tour start time for all private day tours. Cancellations between 24–48 hours incur a 25% cancellation fee. Cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows are non-refundable. We strongly recommend travel insurance, especially during monsoon season (July–September) when weather can occasionally disrupt plans.
Yes — our private day tours are among the safest ways for solo female travellers to explore India. All guides and drivers are background-checked, licensed, and regularly reviewed by our operations team. Your vehicle’s GPS is tracked throughout the day. Our operations team is reachable by WhatsApp at all times. Hundreds of solo female travellers book our private tours every month — they frequently rate the safety and professionalism as highlights in their reviews.

Complete Guide to Private Day Tours in India — 2026

India is vast, complex, and endlessly rewarding — but navigating it alone can be overwhelming for first-time and even experienced travellers. A private day tour is the most efficient, insightful, and stress-free way to experience India's iconic landmarks in a single day. Whether you have one free day in Delhi, a layover in Mumbai, or a weekend in Rajasthan, private day tours offer unmatched flexibility and depth of experience. Here is everything you need to know.

What Is a Private Day Tour in India?

A private day tour is a guided excursion exclusively for you and your companions — no strangers, no shared vehicles, and no compromises on your schedule. A licensed local guide accompanies you to your chosen destinations, providing historical context, cultural insight, and language assistance. A dedicated driver and private air-conditioned vehicle handle all transport. Monument tickets are pre-booked and included. The result is a deeply immersive day without any of the logistical headaches.

Same-Day Taj Mahal Tour from Delhi — Is It Worth It?

Yes — a same-day Taj Mahal tour from Delhi is one of the world's great day trips and is absolutely worth doing. Agra is approximately 200 km south of Delhi, a 2.5–3 hour drive via the Yamuna Expressway. We recommend leaving Delhi by 5:00 AM to arrive at the Taj Mahal by sunrise (around 6:00–7:00 AM depending on season). The morning light on the white marble is extraordinary, and the crowds are thin compared to mid-morning. Combine with a visit to Agra Fort — just 2 km from the Taj Mahal — and you have a genuinely complete Agra experience within a single day.

Best Private Day Tours in Delhi

Delhi offers two distinct worlds — Old and New — each deserving its own exploration. Our Old Delhi Heritage & Street Food Tour is a walking-based journey through Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, the Red Fort, the Spice Market (Khari Baoli), and the narrow lanes of a city unchanged for centuries. Our New Delhi & Modern India Tour covers India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, and the Lotus Temple. For the complete experience, our Full-Day Delhi City Tour combines both in one comprehensive private day out.

Private Day Tours in Jaipur — The Pink City

Jaipur's Amber Fort alone warrants a half-day private tour. The scale of its palace complex, its mirrored Sheesh Mahal, and the views over Maota Lake are breathtaking. Our full-day Jaipur private tour also covers the City Palace (still home to Jaipur's royal family), Hawa Mahal (the Palace of Winds), Jantar Mantar UNESCO World Heritage observatory, and the gem and textile bazaars of Johari and Bapu markets. A hot-air balloon ride over the city at sunrise can be added to any Jaipur day tour.

Varanasi Private Day Tours — India's Spiritual Heart

Varanasi is unlike anywhere else on Earth. Our private Varanasi day tours are carefully curated to be respectful, immersive, and genuinely moving. A sunrise boat ride on the Ganges, a guided walk through the ancient ghats, a visit to the 3,500-year-old Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex, and a front-row view of the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony — each of these experiences is profound on its own. Together, with a sensitive and knowledgeable guide, they form an encounter with India that stays with you for life.

Specialist Private Day Tours — Food, Photography & More

Beyond sightseeing, we offer specialist private day tours for those with specific passions. Our Delhi Street Food Private Tour takes gourmets through the most legendary food streets in the capital. Our Photography Day Tours — available in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur — are led by guides who are trained in understanding light, angles, and timing at each monument. Our Heritage Craft Tours in Jaipur include visits to block-printing workshops, gem-cutting studios, and blue pottery cooperatives that are invisible to standard tourists.

How Far in Advance Should I Book a Private Day Tour?

We recommend booking at least 48–72 hours in advance to guarantee your preferred guide, vehicle, and time slot. During peak season (October–February), popular tours — especially the Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour — can be fully booked one to two weeks ahead. Taj Mahal monument tickets have daily capacity limits, and we secure these on your behalf as soon as your booking is confirmed. Last-minute bookings are sometimes possible, particularly in shoulder season (March–April and September), but advance booking is always advised.
