Continue Browsing TripsWithin the first few moments of stepping off the plane, the crisp, thin air and the panoramic views of barren, sun-drenched peaks will leave you breathless—both literally and figuratively. However, high altitude travel India style requires meticulous planning, precise pacing, and expert knowledge to ensure safety and comfort. Whether you are a solo adventurer pushing your limits, a family seeking a unique cultural immersion, or a luxury traveller wanting premium camps under the stars, this comprehensive guide will detail exactly how to execute a flawless Ladakh 5 day trip. We have crafted this itinerary to balance essential acclimatization with maximum awe, ensuring you experience the best of the Himalayas safely and luxuriously.
10:00 AM – Arrival at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport
Your high-altitude adventure begins with one of the most spectacular commercial flights in the world. As you descend into Leh, you are surrounded by towering, snow-capped peaks. Upon landing, your private chauffeur will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your premium hotel.
11:30 AM – Mandatory Rest and Hydration
This is the most critical phase of your Leh Ladakh Tour Package 5 Days — Nubra Valley & Pangong Lake. Since you have flown directly to 11,500 feet, you must spend the first 4 to 6 hours resting in your room. Do not sleep, but rather lie down, relax, and drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water. Acclimatization is non-negotiable for a successful trip.
04:00 PM – Leh Palace & Shanti Stupa
In the late afternoon, once you feel adjusted, embark on a gentle, low-exertion sightseeing tour. Visit the historic, nine-story Leh Palace, a 17th-century former royal residence offering sweeping views of the old town. Next, drive up to the Shanti Stupa. Watching the sunset cast a golden-orange glow over the barren mountains from this peaceful Buddhist monument is a deeply spiritual experience.
07:00 PM – Dinner in Leh Market
Conclude your first day with a stroll through the vibrant Leh Main Market. Stop by a local café for a warm bowl of Thukpa (Tibetan noodle soup) to keep the evening chill at bay.
(Overnight in Leh)
08:00 AM – The Khardung La Pass Drive
Following a hearty breakfast, you will check out and begin your ascent. The drive from Leh to the Nubra Valley takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. Within the first two hours, you will summit Khardung La. At 18,380 feet, the air is thin, and the temperature drops significantly. You will stop here for a maximum of 15 minutes to take iconic photographs with the mountain pass signboard and sip hot chai at the army cafeteria.
12:30 PM – Arrival in Nubra Valley & Diskit Monastery
As you descend into the Nubra Valley (10,000 feet), the landscape shifts dramatically from snow and rock to a surprisingly lush, wide river valley. Your first stop is the ancient Diskit Monastery. Perched on a rocky hilltop, it is the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra. The breathtaking 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha facing down the Shyok River is a true marvel of engineering and devotion.
03:00 PM – Hunder Sand Dunes and Camel Safari
After checking into your luxury Swiss tent camp and enjoying a late lunch, drive to the Hunder sand dunes. It is here you will experience the surreal Nubra Valley camel ride. Riding a rare, double-humped Bactrian camel (a relic of the ancient Silk Road trade) through high-altitude, cold-desert sand dunes, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, is an otherworldly experience.
07:00 PM – Stargazing and Campfire
Return to your premium camp. Because Nubra Valley has virtually zero light pollution, the night sky here is spectacular. Enjoy a warm dinner and stargazing before retiring for the night.
(Overnight in Nubra Valley)
08:30 AM – The Off-Beat Shyok River Drive
Today, you embark on the most thrilling leg of your Ladakh 5 day trip. Rather than driving all the way back to Leh, your skilled driver will navigate the rugged, off-beat Agham-Shyok route. This 5 to 6-hour drive runs parallel to the roaring Shyok River. The terrain is rocky, adventurous, and visually spectacular, featuring deep gorges and towering canyon walls.
02:00 PM – First Glimpse of Pangong Tso
As you emerge from the mountains near the village of Durbuk, the landscape opens up, and you catch your first glimpse of Pangong Lake (14,270 feet). The sheer scale and vibrant, electric blue color of this 134-kilometer-long saltwater lake—which extends all the way into Tibet—will leave you speechless.
03:30 PM – Pangong Tso Camping & Exploration
Check into your premium, insulated lakeside camp. Spend the late afternoon walking along the pristine shoreline. The lake is famous for changing colors—from deep azure to light turquoise and even emerald green—depending on the angle of the sun. Fans of Bollywood will also recognize the iconic "3 Idiots" shooting point.
07:00 PM – A Chilly, Beautiful Night
Temperatures at Pangong drop drastically after sunset, often nearing freezing even in summer. Retreat to the dining tent for a hot buffet dinner. Falling asleep in a cozy bed while listening to the winds of the high Himalayas is a bucket-list experience.
(Overnight at Pangong Lake)
06:00 AM – The Pangong Sunrise
Brave the morning cold and step out of your tent before dawn. Watching the sun rise over the mountains of Tibet and illuminate the crystal-clear waters of Pangong Tso is a deeply moving, serene moment that makes the entire journey worthwhile.
09:00 AM – The Mighty Chang La Pass
After a hot breakfast, commence your return journey to Leh (approx. 5 to 6 hours). This Leh to Pangong Lake itinerary requires you to cross the formidable Chang La Pass (17,586 feet). This pass is often snow-covered year-round and offers spectacular, icy vistas. Enjoy complimentary black tea offered by the Indian Army at the summit.
01:30 PM – Thiksey Monastery and Shey Palace
As you descend back into the Indus Valley toward Leh, you will make a few cultural stops. Visit the breathtaking Thiksey Monastery, often referred to as "Mini Potala" due to its striking resemblance to the Potala Palace in Tibet. If time permits, make a brief stop at the historic Shey Palace and the Rancho School.
04:30 PM – Arrival in Leh & Leisure
Check back into your luxury Leh hotel. Spend your final evening purchasing authentic souvenirs, such as Pashmina shawls, turquoise jewelry, and apricot oil from the vibrant Leh market. Enjoy a celebratory farewell dinner at a premium local restaurant.
(Overnight in Leh)
07:30 AM – Breakfast and Airport Transfer
Enjoy your final Ladakhi breakfast while looking out at the rugged Stok Kangri Mountain range. After completing your check-out process, your chauffeur will transfer you to the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport.
09:30 AM – The Journey Home
Board your flight back to New Delhi or your onward destination. As the plane climbs above the Himalayas, you will look down at the barren, beautiful landscape with a deep sense of accomplishment, marking the flawless conclusion of your epic high-altitude adventure.
You can cancel up to 48 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
