Same Day Taj Mahal Tour by Gatiman Train

Our tour representative will pick you up from your hotel or the Delhi airport at 6 AM. He will drop you off at the railway station and help you find your coach and seat. Aim to arrive at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (NZM) at least 45 minutes before departure. The station can be chaotic for first-timers.

Settle into your seat as the train pulls out of the station. Shortly after departure, the train hostesses will serve a complimentary breakfast. You can usually choose between a vegetarian option (like cutlets and upma) or a non-vegetarian option (an omelet with sausages), accompanied by tea, coffee, and fruit juice.

When your train arrives at the station, your tour guide or driver will be waiting to welcome you. He will be holding a name sign for easy identification and will already have your photograph, which was shared by the driver who assisted you at departure and escorted you to your train coach. This ensures a smooth and hassle-free meeting upon arrival.

Your first stop is, of course, the Taj Mahal. Head to the East or West Gate. If you haven't bought your tickets online (which is highly recommended to avoid queues), you will need to purchase them here.

Spend the next two hours marveling at this ivory-white marble mausoleum. Commissioned in 1631 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, the symmetry and intricate pietra dura (inlay work) are mind-boggling.

Before heading back, a short visit to a local marble workshop is highly recommended. Here, you can see the descendants of the original Taj Mahal builders practicing Pietra Dura (stone inlay). Watching them hand-carve semi-precious stones like Lapis Lazuli and Malachite into white marble is a testament to the city’s living history.

Your chauffeur will drive you to a premium, highly-rated restaurant or the dining room of a luxury 5-star hotel (such as the courtyard by Marriott or Doubletree by Hilton).

Agra’s culinary heritage is legendary, deeply influenced by the rich flavors and cooking traditions of the royal Mughal kitchens. We highly recommend heading out for a traditional lunch at a renowned local restaurant. Indulge in classic specialties such as velvety Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken), flavorful mutton curries, and freshly baked garlic naan. Vegetarian guests can enjoy delicious dishes like Kadai Paneer, Paneer Butter Masala, and freshly prepared Butter Naan, offering a perfect taste of North India’s rich culinary traditions.

Just 2.5 kilometers from the Taj lies the magnificent Agra Fort, a massive red sandstone fortress that served as the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty. Explore the Diwan-i-Am (Hall of Public Audience), the Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), and the stunning Jahangir Palace.

Don't miss the Musamman Burj, the octagonal tower where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb, spending his final days gazing out at the Taj Mahal, where his beloved wife rested.

Head back to Agra Cantt railway station to catch your return train.
