Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar – The Venetian Dream

12:00 PM – Arrival and Traditional Welcome

Your breathtaking adventure begins as you touch down at the Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar. Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted by your private chauffeur and representative. Settle into your comfortable, climate-controlled vehicle for the scenic drive into the city center.

01:30 PM – Check-In to a Heritage Houseboat

No Kashmir family holiday is complete without experiencing the iconic houseboats. You will be transferred via a small boat to your floating accommodation on the serene Dal Lake or the quieter Nigeen Lake. These houseboats are marvels of Kashmiri craftsmanship, featuring intricate walnut wood carvings and luxurious interiors. Take some time to freshen up and enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by your houseboat host.

04:30 PM – Sunset Shikara Ride

As the afternoon sun softens, step into a vibrantly decorated Shikara (traditional wooden boat) for a peaceful ride across the lake. This two-hour journey is deeply therapeutic. You will glide past floating gardens, local artisans selling papier-mâché crafts directly from their boats, and the historic Char Chinar Island. Watching the sun dip behind the Zabarwan mountain range, casting golden reflections on the rippling water, is an unforgettable introduction to the valley.

07:30 PM – Dinner on the Lake

Return to your houseboat for a quiet, candlelit dinner featuring gentle Kashmiri flavors. Fall asleep to the gentle lapping of water against the wooden hull.

(Night 1: Srinagar Houseboat)

Day 2: Srinagar Local Sightseeing – Echoes of the Mughal Empire

09:00 AM – Breakfast and Relocation

Enjoy a warm cup of saffron Kahwa and breakfast on the houseboat deck. Afterward, you will check out and seamlessly transfer to a premium hotel in Srinagar city to serve as your base for the next few days.

10:30 AM – The Grand Mughal Gardens

Your local Srinagar itinerary begins with the city's crowning architectural achievements: the Mughal Gardens. First, visit Nishat Bagh (The Garden of Joy), a magnificent 12-terraced garden offering sweeping views of Dal Lake. Next, explore Shalimar Bagh (The Abode of Love), built by Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan. The symmetrical water channels, cascading fountains, and towering Chinar trees make this a photographer's absolute paradise.

01:30 PM – Authentic Wazwan Lunch

For lunch, head to a highly-rated local restaurant like Ahdoos or Mughal Darbar to experience Wazwan. This traditional multi-course meal is the pride of Kashmir, featuring delicacies like Rogan Josh, Gushtaba, and Tabakh Maaz. (Excellent vegetarian options, such as Nadru Yakhni—lotus stem in yogurt—are also readily available).

03:30 PM – Shankaracharya Temple

In the afternoon, take a short drive up the forested Shankaracharya Hill. After climbing the stone steps to the ancient Shiva temple at the summit, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking, 360-degree panoramic view of the entire city of Srinagar and the winding Jhelum River.

06:00 PM – Local Bazaar Shopping

Conclude your day with a stroll through the bustling local markets. Lal Chowk and Polo View Market are excellent places to shop for world-famous Pashmina shawls, Kashmiri saffron, and intricate walnut wood carvings.

(Night 2: Srinagar Hotel)

Day 3: Excursion to Sonamarg – The Meadow of Gold

08:00 AM – Scenic Drive to Sonamarg

Following an early breakfast, embark on a spectacular day trip to Sonamarg, located approximately 80 kilometers (2.5 hours) from Srinagar. The drive itself is incredibly scenic, following the winding path of the azure Sind River through deep valleys and towering alpine forests.

10:30 AM – Exploring the Meadow of Gold

Sonamarg translates directly to "Meadow of Gold," named for the vibrant yellow wildflowers that carpet the valley in spring. Surrounded by massive Himalayan glaciers, the landscape here feels incredibly raw and untouched.

11:30 AM – Thajiwas Glacier Adventure

The highlight of your Sonamarg day trip is a visit to the Thajiwas Glacier. You can choose to hike the scenic 3-kilometer trail, or hire a local pony for a classic alpine riding experience. Even in the middle of summer, you will find snow here, making it a massive hit for families and couples alike. Enjoy a cup of hot Maggi noodles and tea at the glacier base—a beloved mountain tradition.

03:00 PM – Return to Srinagar

After a fulfilling day in the high altitudes, relax in your vehicle as your chauffeur safely navigates the return journey to Srinagar in time for a warm dinner at your hotel.

(Night 3: Srinagar Hotel)

Day 4: Journey to Pahalgam – The Valley of Shepherds

08:30 AM – Drive Through the Saffron Fields

Check out of your Srinagar hotel and commence your journey toward Pahalgam, located about 90 kilometers away. Along the route, your driver will stop at the town of Pampore, famous globally for its sprawling saffron fields. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Awantipora Ruins, an ancient temple complex dating back to the 9th century.

11:30 AM – Arrival in Pahalgam

Pahalgam, situated at the confluence of the Lidder River and the Sheshnag Lake streams, is arguably the most picturesque valley in the region. Check into your riverside hotel and listen to the soothing sound of the rushing rapids.

01:00 PM – The Three Valleys Tour

In the afternoon, hire a local union vehicle (as outside cars are not permitted for local sightseeing here) to explore the famed surrounding valleys.

Betaab Valley: Named after the famous Bollywood movie shot here, this valley features lush green meadows surrounded by snow-clad mountains.

Aru Valley: A quieter, deeply serene village that serves as the base camp for several high-altitude treks.

Chandanwari: The starting point of the holy Amarnath Yatra, offering dramatic landscapes and thick pine forests.

06:00 PM – River Walk and Leisure

Return to Pahalgam town for a leisurely evening stroll along the banks of the Lidder River before enjoying dinner at your resort.

(Night 4: Pahalgam Hotel)

Day 5: Pahalgam to Gulmarg – The Meadow of Flowers

08:00 AM – Departure for Gulmarg

After breakfast, you will embark on the longest drive of the itinerary, traversing from Pahalgam to Gulmarg (approximately 140 kilometers, taking roughly 4 hours). As you approach Gulmarg, the winding mountain roads flanked by towering pine trees will leave you absolutely spellbound.

12:30 PM – Arrival and the Majestic Gondola

Gulmarg is a world-class ski resort in the winter and a vibrant meadow of wildflowers in the summer. Upon arrival and check-in, head straight for the main attraction: the Gulmarg gondola ride. It is one of the highest and longest cable cars in Asia.

Phase 1 (Kungdoor): Takes you to a beautiful bowl-shaped valley at 8,500 feet, perfect for ATV rides, pony treks, and enjoying the snow.

Phase 2 (Apharwat Peak): Ascends to nearly 14,000 feet. If the weather permits, taking this second phase brings you to the summit, where you can literally touch the clouds and view the Line of Control (LOC) on a clear day.

04:30 PM – Golf Course and Church Walk

Once you descend, take a peaceful walk around the Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve. Visit the highest green golf course in the world and the historic St. Mary’s Church, a charming Victorian-style structure standing solitary in the meadow.

(Night 5: Gulmarg Hotel)

Day 6: Farewell to Paradise – Departure

09:00 AM – Breakfast with a View

Enjoy your final Kashmiri breakfast while gazing out at the snow-capped Apharwat peak from your hotel window. Take a final morning walk through the crisp meadow air to purchase any last-minute souvenirs from local vendors.

11:00 AM – Transfer to Srinagar Airport

Your chauffeur will drive you back to the Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar (a comfortable 2-hour drive).

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to travel to Kashmir right now?

Yes, absolutely. Kashmir is currently one of the most heavily visited tourist destinations in India. The locals are exceptionally welcoming and deeply value tourism. The primary tourist corridors—Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg—are heavily secured, well-patrolled, and incredibly safe for families, couples, and solo travellers alike.

Are 6 days and 5 nights enough for a Kashmir trip?

Yes, a 6-day itinerary is widely considered the perfect duration. It provides exactly enough time to comfortably visit the major highlights without experiencing travel exhaustion. You can enjoy a houseboat stay in Srinagar, experience the snow in Gulmarg, and relax in the valleys of Pahalgam, all at a highly comfortable, luxurious pace.

Will I see snow in Kashmir during the summer?

While the main towns and valleys will be green and blooming with flowers during the summer, you can still easily experience snow. Taking the Gulmarg Gondola (Phase 2) to Apharwat Peak or visiting the Thajiwas Glacier in Sonamarg guarantees snow encounters almost year-round.

Are there good vegetarian food options in Kashmir?

While Kashmir is world-famous for its non-vegetarian Wazwan, vegetarians will not face any issues. The region produces excellent vegetarian dishes, including Nadru Yakhni (lotus stem curry), Dum Aloo, and Tschaman (Kashmiri paneer). Furthermore, all major hotels and tourist hubs offer standard North Indian and South Indian vegetarian menus.

Outstanding experience in both Varanasi and Agra! We had an unforgettable journey through Varanasi and Agra thanks to our guide. At the Taj Mahal, their deep knowledge of Mughal architecture and history brought the monument to life, and they expertly guided us away from the heavy crowds to get the best views and photos. In Varanasi, they navigated the bustling alleys and ghats seamlessly, explaining the spiritual significance of the Ganga Aarti and morning boat ride with great care and respect. Punctual, professional, and genuinely attentive throughout. Highly recommended to anyone visiting North India!

Don’t just go to the Taj Mahal…EXPERIENCE it!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Absolutely Incredible Day in Agra! Our experience with India Bon Voyage was truly unforgettable, and I cannot recommend them highly enough! Our day began with Jitendra picking us up from our hotel before sunrise so we could experience the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Seeing the Taj Mahal in that beautiful morning light was absolutely breathtaking. Afterward, he took us back to our hotel so we could relax and enjoy breakfast before picking us up again to continue our day. Jitendra was an incredible guide. He was knowledgeable, professional, personable, and genuinely fun to spend the day with. He answered every question we had and shared fascinating facts and stories that made the Taj Mahal come alive. He even pointed out some of the Taj Mahal’s amazing optical illusions and architectural details that we would have completely missed on our own. From there, we visited Agra Fort, the Baby Taj, and several really interesting local shops. One thing that really stood out to me was how attentive Jitendra was without ever being intrusive. When we wanted to wander around on our own, he stayed nearby in case we needed anything. That gave us the freedom to explore while still knowing we had someone looking out for us. Lunch at the beautiful five-star hotel was also fantastic and was such a wonderful addition to the day. But the perfect ending was still to come. At dusk, Jitendra took us to a beautiful viewing spot where we could watch the Taj Mahal as the changing light seemed to transform its color. It was absolutely magical and something I will never forget. Jitendra didn’t just show us the Taj Mahal—he helped us experience it. His knowledge, kindness, professionalism, humor, and genuine care made the entire day feel effortless and special. If you’re visiting Agra, do yourself a favor and book with India Bon Voyage. Having Jitendra as our guide made an already incredible place even more meaningful. We left with unforgettable memories, incredible photos, and a much deeper appreciation for the history and beauty of the Taj Mahal. India Bon Voyage and Jitendra deserve every one of these five stars! 🇮🇳❤️✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly, highly recommended!
